You're engaged to the love of your life and all is good in your little world. Let the wedding planning begin! So much fun (but so overwhelming).
Where do you even begin? Starting with a venue is most brides first step, then figuring out colors based on the venues vibe... Dress, food, cake, oh no! Where does hair and makeup fit in?! We'll help you with that.
Sunny San Diego is ranked number 5 out of 3,019 counties with a whopping 32,000 weddings per year.
Mobile Radiance is an on-location mobile beauty team with some of the most requested and talented professional hair and makeup artists in the industry. We have had the honor of servicing a great deal of these precious unions. A pleasure each and every time! .... Well, almost every time (Bridezilla's very much exist 🙈). Needless to say, we've seen some sh*t. We're here to help you not make the same mistakes that we've seen countless brides make.
Mistake #1: Waiting To Book Hair & Makeup Artists
As the booking specialist here at Mobile Radiance, I cannot even begin to tell you the amount of brides we are forced to turn down due to lack of availability because the bride waited to book hair and makeup. So many brides get everything checked off the list as far as accommodations and entertainment for everyone else, but wait to choose the team that are going to help HER feel like an absolute QUEEN (yaaas girllll 💁♀️).
Your wedding photos are going to last you a lifetime. These photos will forever portray how you felt on your wedding day. How you look strongly correlates with how you feel and it's very much seen in photos.
So, when is the right time to book professional hair and makeup artists?
6-8 months in advance. Not only will you find the best availability as far as choices in artists, this time frame allows you to still be able to make changes to your booking if needed. The closer you get to date, the harder it is to make adjustments. Artists will have less availability as the wedding date creeps closer, which inevitably forces them to be less flexible to any change requests. They can't mess with someone else's wedding that they have booked prior or after yours because you didn't plan well enough or soon enough. It's the harsh reality.
Mistake #2: Not Getting a Hair and Makeup Trial
There are numerous reasons why getting a trial is oh so important...
It allows you to meet your artist to see if you two vibe. Someone can be the most talented professional hair and makeup artist in San Diego County, but who knows if you two vibe?! Hair and makeup artists should always be professional and friendly (at least they are here at Mobile Radiance), but professional and friendly just isn't enough on your wedding day! You need someone who's energy puts you at ease while you are in their chair. It's makes all the difference in the world!
Figuring out of the look you want is really what you want! Most brides come with inspiration photos and know what they want and would like the artist to copy a Pinterest photo they found. Some brides end up realizing they don't like that particular look on themselves, personally. A trial is the time to test that because there is no time for indecisiveness on the wedding day.
Figuring out what you want altogether. Some brides come not knowing what they want, at all, and they want the professionals opinion. Your actual wedding date is not the time to have your hair and makeup artist guess what you will like. They are very good at what they do, but the reality is they do not know you or your comfort level the first time they meet you. They can make you look GORG no matter what. But will it fit who you are? Debatable. A trial lets the artist get to know you, what you like, and your glam comfort level. Trials allow time to change and adjust things until you have the winning look.
Trials help make the wedding day go incredibly smooth. Once you and your artist(s) figure out exactly what you want on your wedding day, everyone walks in confident, stress free, and with a game plan. You sit in their chair cool, calm, and collected. It's almost like a spa day! You'll be able to relax and know your artist has it handled 😮💨.
Mistake #3: Ignoring Self Care Prior to the Wedding Because You're Too Busy
Professional hair and makeup artists are very close to being magic, we just need a little help from our friends (you)! Our products are phenomenal, but the reality is, they can only do so much. For the most flawless of looks, you need to take care of you. Deep condition your hair, get a haircut to rid of those pesky split ends, and moisturize!!!! Omg the most important one. Please, moisturize. Makeup applications are night and day will a healthy base.
Which actually makes #5 for reasons to get a trial ahead of time! A trial will allow your artists to give you self care recommendations tailored to your specific needs and the look you want on the big day.
